Capture summer memories
with a family time capsule
A practice that dates back to 700 B.C., creating a time
capsule involves leaving an object or group of objects buried
for a future generation to find. In keeping with tradition, why
not create your family’s very own time capsule to retrieve
and share together in 10 or 15 years? It’s as easy as 1-2-3:
ASK YOUR KIDS TO CONTRIBUTE
such items as a photo
or postcard, a favorite toy or a game your family enjoys
playing together. You can also include ticket stubs from
flights or tours from a vacation, or any other items that will
remind the family of a special time.
WRAP ITEMS IN ACID-FREE PAPER
and place in a
sealed plastic bag. You can also use aluminum foil or a
plastic box with a lid.
BURY THE CAPSULE IN YOUR BACKYARD
. Or, if you’re
unsure how long you will be living in your home, at a specific
place at a park or preserve. Pick a date to return and be
sure to make note of the location and its coordinates.

ban on the drugs mephedrone, methylone and
methylenedioxypyrovalerone (MDPV), synthetic
stimulants that have been sold in deceptive packaging
under the names “bath salts,” “plant food” and, most recently,
“glass cleaner.” ese synthetic drugs are created in illicit labs
and sold in a white powder form, often indistinguishable from
cocaine, and have stimulating e ects on the central nervous
system and cardiovascular system.
Using these drugs can have dangerous e ects, including
psychotic and paranoid behavior or violence. ey have also
been linked to several deaths throughout the country, including
deaths by suicide. e drugs can be snorted, injected or mixed into
food or drink.
“Bath salts” was the original name under which the products were
marketed when brought under scrutiny by law enforcement, which
led to changes in packaging and renaming. Some states had not yet

and classi cation of them as Schedule 1 drugs, or the most restrictive
category. e ban and classi cation will remain in place for a minimum
of one year, until more studies can be done and information assessed
about the long-term e ects.
