Choe, a senior at Torrey Pines High School, says that she doesn’t spend much time with her brother and does not consider spending time with her family a top priority, although she recognizes its importance.
“Family members are the only people that you can actually trust, who love you the most,” she says.
In addition to physical barriers and personality differences, underlying cultural attitudes and traditions also play a role.
“My observation is that the average American family doesn’t spend as much time [together],” Wang says. “One thing is the culture. Some parents’ priorities are [different than others].”
