one of the many waterfalls in
the Poconos for a fun, inexpensive
way to enjoy nature’s beauty. Most

Christmas. In its 27th year, the festival
brings Christmas customs of the past to
life, from a lantern-lit tour of the 19th
century farm, to old-fashioned hot
chocolate and cookies.
LESSONS LEARNED
At select times of the year,
families can add an educational twist
to their vacation by visiting one of
the Poconos’ museums.The Old Jail
Museum was once the site where seven
accused coal miners known as the Molly
Maguires were executed. Now, with
reconstructed gallows, guests can tour the
mysterious history of the jail.
Another great learning location is
Bear Mountain Butterfly Sanctuary, where
children and families can interact with
butterflies and discover more about these
beautiful winged creatures.
Many types of festivals and gatherings
take place on the grounds of the Pocono
Mountains. Each October, the Black Bear
Film Festival celebrates artistic expression
and cultural enhancement by supporting
independent filmmakers.There are also
several types of music festivals with
tunes ranging from jazz to pop, as well
as rodeos at specific times of the year
featuring bull riding, steer wrestling, tie-
down roping, team roping, barrel racing
and breakaway roping.
There are endless opportunities for
fun, entertainment and adventure in the
Poconos. So whether you’re cooling off
in the summer in any of the many lakes
and rivers or enjoying the views from
a horse-drawn carriage and hitting the
slopes in the winter, the Poconos make for
a beautiful family vacation.
