POCONOS

A
t 2,400 square miles, the
Pocono Mountains (also
known as simply The Poconos)
is a lush outdoor getaway
filled with endless activities.The
region encompasses four counties in
Pennsylvania and is known for its
resorts, scenery and quaint towns. From
outdoor adventures such as white water
rafting and exploring waterfalls, to
indoor pursuits including museums and
concerts, there are plenty of ways to
enjoy this scenic northeastern locale.
FUN IN THE SUN
In the summer, the Poconos
offer many ways to beat the
heat, especially with its 150
lakes in the region. Families can
get close to nature by taking a boat
tour, canoeing, kayaking, tubing or just
relaxing on one of its many beaches.
There are also several waterparks for
families to enjoy, as well as adventure
parks that offer such activities as zip
lining, aerial rope courses and bungee
trampolines.
Horseback riding is also available,
as well as hiking, biking and fishing
for largemouth bass and rainbow trout.
Other ways to enjoy the great outdoors
include off-roading and ATV tours,
hunting, paintballing, skydiving, and
racecar driving at the Pocono Speedway.
The area encompasses nine state
parks and two national parks.The
Promised Land State Park is
known for its lakes, streams and
campgrounds, while the Delaware
Water Gap National Recreation Area
entices guests with its waterfalls, diverse
wildlife and natural history.
WINTER WONDERLAND
Winter in the Poconos brings a wide array
of activities, from skiing and snowboarding
to snow tubing and snowshoeing. Snowy
wonderlands encompass over 163 ski trails
and more than 185 slopes ranging from
challenging to moderate.
Explore the beautiful countryside on
snowmobile and horseback trails, or take
in the winter beauty of the Poconos with
a sleigh ride guaranteed to put you in the
holiday spirit. You can also mush a team
of dogsleds, ice skate or fish on one of the
many lakes teeming with big catch.
For the extra-chilly days, or on days
when the family just feels like relaxing, cozy
up to a fire in a ski lodge with a mug of
steaming cocoa. Quaint towns and snow-
dusted scenery are sure to get you in the
spirit of the season, as will the Quiet Valley
