What is the Girl Scouts–
Arizona Cactus-Pine
Council’s overall mission?
Girl Scouts is
the preeminent
leadership development
organization for girls. We provide
girls with opportunities to practice
everyday leadership, prepare
girls to empower themselves
and promote G.I.R.L. (Go-getter,
Innovator, Risk-taker, Leader)
experiences because we know that
girls built of courage, confidence
and character make the world a
better place.
The Arizona Cactus-Pine
Council serves more than 20,000
girls (K-12) with the help of
10,000 adult volunteers. While
our jurisdiction covers central and
northern Arizona, most of our
members live in Maricopa County.
We welcome all girls, regardless
of race, ethnicity, creed, or
socioeconomic status.
What programs do the Girl
Scouts–Arizona Cactus-
Pine Council offer?
In Girl Scouts, girls develop their
leadership potential through
age-appropriate activities that
enable them to discover their
values, skills, and the world
around them; connect with
others; and take action to make
a difference in their world. These
activities are designed to be girl
led, cooperative, and hands-on—
processes that create high-quality
experiences conducive to learning.
Our programs are organized
into four main areas:
h
STEM
We introduce Girl
Scouts of every age to science,
technology, engineering, and math
to help them see how they can
improve the world—whether they’re
discovering computer programming,
making a model rocket, or caring for
animals.
h
OUTDOOR
Girls not only
engage in outdoor activity and
exploration, but also develop an
appreciation for nature and its
preservation. With four camp
properties, girls can enjoy summer
camp, troop camping and even
family camp.
h
LIFE SKILLS
From learning
how to tackle problems, work well
within a team, to understanding
what a healthy diet means,
girls learn skills they will need
throughout their life.
h
ENTREPRENEURSHIP
Through
the Girl Scout Cookie program,
girls gain important business and
financial skills including: goal
setting, money management,
people skills, decision-making,
and business ethics. Girls learn to
see money as a valuable resource,
understand wants versus needs, and
develop strategies to save money.
What do these programs
and activities teach girls?
The experiences girls have in Girl
Scouting are designed to help
them develop a strong sense of
self, healthy relationships, positive
values, confidence in facing new
challenges, and become effective
problem-solvers. When girls exhibit
these attitudes and skills, they

become responsible, productive,
caring and engaged citizens.
How can parents and
families become involved?
There are many ways parents and
families can become involved. You
can volunteer at troop meetings,
go on field trips, become a troop
leader, or take part in a family
activity. Volunteers are not only
role models who get to show girls
something new, they also get
to share in all those memorable
moments. Plus, they have the
satisfaction of knowing they are
making girls’ lives better.
Why is MASK and its mission
important to the Girl Scouts–
Arizona Cactus-Pine Council?
MASK plays an important role
in our community by helping to
educate parents of school-age
children about child development
and the societal issues children
face today. Both organizations
are focused on helping our youth
develop the values, attitudes
and skills needed to successfully
navigate through life and reach
their full potential. Our efforts are
complementary.
